Ortho-Express FAQ

Ortho-express is an alternative cosmetic treatment that gets you the smile you deserve in about 6 months. We use brackets and wires like orthodontists, but our treatment goals are different.

An orthodontist goes through a board certified residency to help patients get an ideal bite or occlusion. This includes, but is not limited to, proper positioning of your molars, proper positioning of your canines, an ideal horizontal distance between your upper teeth and lower teeth (overjet), and an ideal overlap between your front teeth (overbite). This may involve changing your profile by removing some teeth or by surgical means to line the jaw up correctly. Treatment time for adults can typically take 2-3 years or more. The treatment that Ortho-express provides has been available for over 20 years. We are using clear brackets and white-coated wires to address the chief complaint of crooked teeth or spaces between teeth. This is not an alternative to comprehensive orthodontics, but a different cosmetic treatment approach. We do not attempt to make major bite changes. We are leveling the teeth and gums, straightening the teeth and leaving the patient’s posterior occlusion as it is. We gain space in crowded situations by enamel reproximation, or polishing between the teeth. This allows limited tooth movement in the area of the crowding. If there is extreme crowding in the lower arch, a front tooth (incisor) may be extracted to get the space needed. Because of our objective and limited focus, the treatment time to get the smile you want takes about 6 months.

Invisalign does treatment through clear, custom plastic retainers that patients wear all day except for eating. Its biggest advantage is that a patient can get straight teeth wearing no braces. However,

Invisalign® does have its limitations:

  • Not all cases can be done by Invisalign®. All cases can be done via treatment with brackets and wires.
  • Invisalign® may not be able to move the teeth exactly as planned. Brackets and wires can due to direct engagement to the teeth.
  • The treatment time with Invisalign® will never be faster than with brackets and wires.
  • Invisalign® will typically cost more than brackets and wires because of the lab cost involved with custom-made retainers.

Ortho-express is another cosmetic alternative that can be used in lieu of veneers or in addition to veneers. Some patients may not be veneer cases at the initial consultation because of severe crowding or misaligned teeth. By focusing on the goal of giving you a straight teeth and a smile that will make you happy, you may opt not to even want veneers at the end of treatment. If you are still inclined to get veneers after Ortho-Express to have the permanent white shade, your teeth are now in a position that less grinding of your teeth or even no grinding of your teeth will be needed to give you that million dollar smile.

There are some restrictions. This treatment will only be done on patients 18 years and older. You must have had a periodic examination by a general dentist within the last 12 months. Those with moderate to severe periodontal disease are not candidates for treatment. Ortho-Express is not recommended for those patients that are having discomfort in their TMJ prior to treatment. The patient understands that this is not an alternative to comprehensive orthodontics and understands the limited focus of what this treatment provides.

Ortho-Express is a service exclusive to Go Dental. Go Dental is located at 1616 FM 685, Suite 103 in Pflugerville. We are in front of the Walmart Supercenter next to Radioshack.

That's OK. Dr. Polansky and Ortho-Express will still be happy to see you. If you are a patient that is new to Austin or has not been to the dentist in more than 12 months, Go Dental is always accepting new patients and will be happy to treat you for your general dental health. The office of Go Dental understands that other patients may be interested in this service outside of the dental office you have always gotten your treatment at. At your initial consultation, please bring your X-rays (bitewings, Pano, and Ceph) and a referral letter from your general dentist stating you are seeking treatment for the Ortho-Express six month braces and that you have had a periodic exam at a specified date within the last 12 months. Although the consultation is free, if you do not have all the X-rays and referral letter required, you may be charged the office's usual and customary fee for those X-rays needed during the initial consultation as well as a new patient exam. Dr. Polansky grew up in New Jersey and the suburbs of New York City. He attended Emory University in Atlanta, GA where he received his bachelor of science in biology and a minor in mathematics. Dr. Polansky then received both his dental degree and his MBA at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA in 2002. From June 2002 through August 2006, Dr. Polansky was a dentist for the United States Navy. His first year was Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Great Lakes, IL through the United States Navy, the “Boot Camp” of the Navy. This was followed by a three year tour in Sasebo, Japan, a small town about 40 miles northwest of Nagasaki. Dr. Polansky was one of three general dentists for a base of 6,000, doing all facets of dentistry and working on children, adults, and even military working dogs! It was here in Sasebo that Dr. Polansky had the rare opportunity in the military to start doing orthodontic cases and knew he wanted to incorporate doing braces on adults in a private practice setting. Dr. Polansky and his family have lived in Austin since finishing his military duty in August 2006 and are extremely happy with their choice.

Dr. Polansky is a general dentist and provides comprehensive dental care at Go Dental.

Dr. Polansky is a general dentist who enjoys doing orthodontics. He is not a board certified orthodontist. Dr. Polansky has learned how to provide Orthodontics from education centers that differ from a board certified residency program.
